UAE · investor Golden Residency

Invest with purpose. Know the residence effect.

The public investor route has distinct evidence paths. An AED 2m stake or deposit and a substantial tax contribution are different tests. The question is whether the commitment makes commercial sense and remains evidenced throughout residence.

THE ROUTE AT A GLANCE

Three bases. No single package investment.

Deposit, shareholding and annual tax contribution require different records and commitments.

01 / Status

Renewable ten-year Golden Residency after approval.

02 / Deposit

At least AED 2m in an approved fund or bank.

03 / Stake

At least AED 2m in company capital or shares.

04 / Tax

At least AED 250,000 a year as a separate alternative.

UAE / DECISION COMPARISON

Which investor basis survives scrutiny?

These are alternatives with distinct evidence. None should be chosen for the visa alone.

01

Approved deposit

AED 2m / bank or fund

EVIDENCE

Deposit with an approved UAE bank or fund; evidence own unborrowed capital and obtain the required certificate.

DECISION CONSEQUENCE

Check holding term, liquidity, counterparty risk and renewal evidence before remitting.

02

Company holding

AED 2m / genuine stake

EVIDENCE

Company capital or shares in a qualifying UAE business with verifiable value and ownership.

DECISION CONSEQUENCE

Assess business risk and actual role; a formation package is not proof of the stake.

03

Tax contribution

AED 250,000 / year

EVIDENCE

Officially evidenced annual tax contribution. Abu Dhabi requires proof for the two previous years under its own rules.

DECISION CONSEQUENCE

Without the underlying tax basis, this is no elective shortcut. Confirm the period with the relevant emirate.

ICP and emirate bodies may impose further holding, insurance and document rules. No figure is a visa fee or approval promise.

01 / STARTING POINTS

What could this route make possible for you?

A residence right is valuable when its effect fits your life, family or business purpose.

01

Align capital and purpose

Choose a deposit or company stake only if it fits the asset plan without the visa.

02

Plan family and location

Test the personal residence value against home, school, healthcare and actual travel days.

03

Maintain the evidence

Document ownership of funds, company stake, tax contribution and renewal from the outset.

02 / LEGAL EFFECT

What the status grants. And what remains separate.

Residence, work, family and tax are not compressed into one promise.

LEGAL INSTRUMENT
UAE · investor Golden Residency

ICP describes a renewable ten-year Golden Residency without an individual sponsor for qualifying investors; issue and renewal remain authority decisions.

03 / BASIS AND CAPITAL

What qualifies for this route.

AED 2m

Approved deposit or company stake from the applicant's own, unborrowed funds.

AED 250,000 / year

Evidenced tax contribution as another path; confirm period by emirate.

10 years

Renewable permit after approval while conditions remain met.

Amounts are eligibility thresholds or tax contributions, not government visa fees. Check source of funds and holding term separately.

04 / LIFE BEHIND THE PERMIT

Residence alone does not settle daily life.

Who may join you, what you may do locally and how tax is affected are three distinct questions.

01

Family and daily life

Spouse and children can join under their own application and evidence rules; ICP also names parents subject to the applicable procedures. Check status, cover, schooling and actual home for each person.

02

Work and business

The residence permit does not replace a trade licence or required professional authorisation. Establish the basis for operating activity, company role and employment separately.

03

Tax position

A Golden Residency card alone does not establish tax residence or an exemption. UAE tax residence depends, among other tests, on the centre of life or 183 days within twelve months; a 90-day alternative has further conditions. Assess work, income type, Corporate Tax and other countries separately.

05 / MAINTENANCE AND OUTLOOK

Keeping the status is part of the decision.

A sound plan considers admission alongside presence, renewal and the longer outlook.

01

Presence

The UAE government portal exempts Golden Residency from the usual six-month outside-country rule. Days and real ties still matter independently for tax, banking and actual home.

02

Renewal and duties

Keep evidence of the qualifying deposit, holding or tax basis and health cover. Check changes with the competent authority before withdrawal, sale or restructuring.

03

Later status

The renewable ten-year permit is neither permanent residence nor automatic citizenship. Any later change of status requires a separate process.

06 / PROCESS AND COSTS

The next step begins before applying.

First test investment purpose and the specific ICP alternative; collect source-of-funds, ownership, company or bank certificate, tax evidence and cover. Then coordinate the ICP or emirate application, identity and medical steps, and family applications. Separate authority fees from transaction costs.

Calculate the whole decision.

Where minimum amounts are stated, they are legal eligibility thresholds at the documented source date, not estimates of total cost. We review fees and other costs for the individual case before filing.

  • Qualifying investment or economic basis
  • Government fees and translations
  • Legal and tax review
  • Family, insurance and location
  • Ongoing duties and renewal
  • Potential exit or status change

UAE / ELIGIBILITY AND EVIDENCE

Which documents belong to each investor path?

Choose the basis first. Dubai and Abu Dhabi request partly different official evidence at filing.

EVIDENCE

01 / Screen capital and emirate

Before placing or moving funds.

  • Deposit: identify bank or fund and AED 2m amount; document own, unborrowed capital and its source (ICP).
  • Company: evidence capital share and registration; do not rely on a licence or nominal value alone.
  • Tax route: establish whether your attributed share of confirmed taxes reaches AED 250,000 annually. Abu Dhabi requires two preceding years.
EVIDENCE

02 / Evidence the chosen alternative

Before filing with the competent body.

  • Dubai deposit: passport copy, official evidence of owned AED 2m in a local bank and proof of housing in Dubai under GDRFA.
  • Dubai company: certified financial report from a UAE-accredited auditor, valid trade licence with partners' appendix, company bank statement; free-zone capital/share certificate where applicable. GDRFA also lists tax registration and prior-year receipts for company investors.
  • Dubai tax: FTA letter confirming your AED 250,000 annual share and trade licence with partners' appendix. Abu Dhabi: licence, current Commercial Registration Certificate (CRC), bank/fund letter, or tax returns and payment receipts for the preceding two years on its tax path.
EVIDENCE

03 / Maintain and renew

During residence and before the next application.

  • Maintain evidence of capital, stake or tax basis; consult the authority before withdrawal, sale or restructuring.
  • Dubai GDRFA restricts withdrawal during the ten-year period but elsewhere describes a two-year freeze: obtain written clarification for the actual deposit product.
  • For renewal, provide updated category, cover and family evidence under the then-current list.

These are documented authority and route examples, not one exhaustive federal upload list. The competent body may ask for further records.

07 / FIT AND LIMITS

When this route belongs on your shortlist.

A suitable permit serves a specific purpose. Where its rights or duties do not fit, comparison with another route begins.

ANSWER FIRST

The deciding question

Which of the three bases can you evidence now and throughout the holding period without making an unsuitable investment?

COMPARE AN ALTERNATIVE

Where this route stops

AED 2m is not a visa fee and not every fund or company qualifies. A tax contribution is not an elective substitute without verifiable basis. Property follows a separate Golden Residency route.

08 / WHAT NBF EXAMINES

Put capital, evidence and residence value in one plan.

We compare the three ICP alternatives against your assets and real purpose for residence.

01

Capital

Test business purpose, risk, liquidity and own funds for each route.

02

Evidence

Organise bank, company or tax records and emirate forms.

03

Life

Plan family, cover, tax residence and renewal before committing.

09 / SOURCES AND REVIEW

The basis for the decision stays visible.

Programme brochures can explain routes. Responsible authorities and the current case determine their legal effect and conditions.
