DECISION CONTEXT 01 · RESIDENCE & INTERNATIONAL POSITION

A new residence should fit the life you actually lead—not merely satisfy a program’s requirements.

A residence decision affects daily life, family, business, and banking—and can create facts that matter in a specialist tax review. We bring these layers together so you can compare programs by practical fit and prepare the right questions for qualified advisors.

  1. 01Residence rightsWhich rights, durations, and conditions do you actually need?
  2. 02Physical presenceWhere will you actually live, work, and make decisions—and what evidence will support that?
  3. 03Personal tax positionWhich facts must qualified advisors review across all relevant countries?
  4. 04FamilyWhich rights and practical requirements apply to spouses, partners, children, and other dependents?
  5. 05Business & bankingWhat changes for company management, accounts, KYC, and payment flows?
REVIEW OUTCOME

You know which routes are realistic, which evidence is still missing, and which specialist questions must be resolved before implementation.

01 · STARTING POINT

A residence permit alone does not create a workable residence plan.

A coordinated review becomes relevant when family, business, banking, or your personal tax position may change as part of the same decision.

Entrepreneur in an international urban setting
01

You are planning an actual move

Daily life, family, schooling, health care, and travel all need to function reliably in the new location.

02

You want to create additional options

Another residence right should increase flexibility without forcing you to abandon existing connections prematurely.

03

Residence and business are changing together

Management, work rights, substance, banking, and personal presence need to align in practice.

04

Several programs initially look alike

Only rights, obligations, presence requirements, family eligibility, practical requirements, total cost, and long-term viability reveal which route is suitable.

02 · DECISION QUESTIONS

Five questions reveal which route can actually support your life.

They expose contradictions before they surface in an application, during bank onboarding, or in specialist review.

01

Residence rights

Which rights, durations, and conditions do you actually need?

You compare only the routes that can support your intended life.

02

Physical presence

Where will you actually live, work, and make decisions—and what evidence will support that?

Your documents and the life you actually lead are less likely to conflict.

03

Personal tax position

Which facts must qualified advisors review across all relevant countries?

Specialists receive one complete set of relevant facts instead of working from isolated assumptions.

04

Family

Which rights and practical requirements apply to spouses, partners, children, and other dependents?

The route works for the family—not only for the principal applicant.

05

Business & banking

What changes for company management, accounts, KYC, and payment flows?

Your residence position and business structure remain coherent.

03 · SEQUENCE

Define the life you want first. Then compare routes. Only then coordinate implementation.

  1. 01INTENT

    Define the intended outcome

Set the rights you need, where you intend to live, your mobility requirements, and your time horizon.

  2. 02FACTS

    Consolidate the facts

Map family, existing residence rights, businesses, assets, travel patterns, and current obligations.

  3. 03COMPARE

    Compare viable routes

Assess practical effects, obligations, exclusions, total cost, and adaptability.

  4. 04REVIEW

    Prepare specialist review

Organize the relevant legal and tax questions for review by appropriately qualified advisors.

04 · DECISION DELIVERABLES

Four documented deliverables make the decision clear, reviewable, and actionable.

Scope depends on the engagement. Each deliverable serves a defined purpose: compare, prepare specialist review, decide, or implement.

06 · FIT / NO FIT

When a coordinated residence review is useful—and when it is not.

STRONG FIT

  • You need to align residence rights, physical presence, and family needs in one workable plan for the life you intend to lead.
  • Your business, banking, or personal tax position will also be affected.
  • You want to compare several programs based on real obligations and how each route works in practice.

A shared decision record reduces the risk that separate steps later work against one another.

NOT A FIT

  • You only need administrative filing for a route you have already selected.
  • You need a standalone legal or tax opinion.
  • You expect a guaranteed approval or tax outcome.

In that case, a strategic review is either unnecessary or not the right engagement.

08 · COMMON QUESTIONS

What to know before taking the next step.

Does obtaining residence automatically change my tax residency?

No. A visa or residence card does not determine tax residency on its own. The actual facts must be reviewed under the rules of every relevant country by qualified advisors in each relevant jurisdiction.

Should the process begin with a country?

It should begin with the function the new residence needs to serve. Only then can countries and programs be compared against your intended life, obligations, and time horizon.

Can family and business be considered together?

Yes, when they are affected. This makes it possible to identify early whether residence rights, physical presence, family life, company management, and banking can work together in practice.

Can my existing legal and tax advisors be involved?

Yes. NBF helps ensure that everyone works from the same fact pattern, clearly defined review questions, and a documented sequence. Each advisor retains responsibility for the advice within their own scope.

What information is needed for an initial assessment?

The starting point is the life you intend to lead, your current residences and residence rights, family situation, business interests, travel pattern, and known timing or financial constraints. Any missing information is identified during the Engagement Fit.

Which costs and ongoing requirements are compared?

Beyond application and government fees, the comparison can include renewals, required presence, insurance, family-related costs, travel, and external professional fees. Housing, substance, or banking requirements are shown separately as implementation conditions.

What if I have already selected a program?

We first determine whether you only need administrative implementation or whether material dependencies remain unresolved. If the decision is already well supported, we do not recommend an additional strategic review.

09 · NEXT STEP

First define what your new residence needs to do for you.

The Engagement Fit shows whether you need a coordinated residence review, a direct specialist service, or an initial assessment by a qualified advisor.
