After individual review, a first 'temporaire' residence card may be issued for one year; the initial fee is €80. Monaco has no Golden Visa.
Monaco · personal residence
Monaco as a home. Not a label.
Monaco does not sell a residence permit. The question is whether your home, resources, and plans support a real life in the Principality. Settle that before a lease or purchase makes the decision for you.
THE ROUTE AT A GLANCE
Understand the route before you commit.
A programme name says little about the rights you and your family will actually be able to use.
Applicants need suitable housing and sufficient means. Depending on the case, evidence can include income, a pension, family support, or a Monaco bank reference; the government sets no universal deposit amount.
A residence card does not replace Employment Office authorization for a job or the separate approvals required for business activity.
An 'ordinaire' card valid for three years may become available after three years of residence; a ten-year 'privilégié' card may be possible after ten years of genuine residence. Neither progression nor citizenship is automatic.
01 / STARTING POINTS
What could this route make possible for you?
A residence right is valuable when its effect fits your life, family or business purpose.
Start with the home
See whether the space suits everyone and daily life, schools, and care will work.
Prove your means
Match income, savings, or family support to the evidence the authorities accept.
Plan work separately
Identify the separate approvals your employment or business plans may require.

02 / LEGAL EFFECT
What the status grants. And what remains separate.
Residence, work, family and tax are not compressed into one promise.
After individual review, a first 'temporaire' residence card may be issued for one year; the initial fee is €80. Monaco has no Golden Visa.
What qualifies for this route.
Show accommodation suitable for everyone who will live there.
Evidence sufficient funds for your circumstances; there is no official flat deposit.
Check visa needs, documents and interview by nationality and situation.
04 / LIFE BEHIND THE PERMIT
Residence alone does not settle daily life.
Who may join you, what you may do locally and how tax is affected are three distinct questions.
Family and daily life
Each foreign family member aged 16 or older planning a longer stay needs an individual application. Children under 16 are not issued a residence card; a separate travel document may be available.
Work and business
A residence card does not replace Employment Office authorization for a job or the separate approvals required for business activity.
Tax position
A residence permit does not determine tax residence on its own. Home, actual presence, activity and applicable treaties require separate review.
05 / MAINTENANCE AND OUTLOOK
Keeping the status is part of the decision.
A sound plan considers admission alongside presence, renewal and the longer outlook.
Presence
Foreign nationals aged 16 or older who plan to stay in Monaco for more than three months in a year or establish a home there must apply for a residence card. The card alone does not determine tax residence.
Renewal and duties
Apply for renewal by the expiry date and provide current housing and means evidence. Renewal of a 'temporaire' card costs €40.
Later status
An 'ordinaire' card valid for three years may become available after three years of residence; a ten-year 'privilégié' card may be possible after ten years of genuine residence. Neither progression nor citizenship is automatic.
06 / PROCESS AND COSTS
The next step begins before applying.
Check the visa rule for your nationality, document suitable housing and means, gather current criminal-record and family documents, and complete the individual application and interview.
Calculate the whole decision.
Where minimum amounts are stated, they are legal eligibility thresholds at the documented source date, not estimates of total cost. We review fees and other costs for the individual case before filing.
- Qualifying investment or economic basis
- Government fees and translations
- Legal and tax review
- Family, insurance and location
- Ongoing duties and renewal
- Potential exit or status change
07 / FIT AND LIMITS
When this route belongs on your shortlist.
A suitable permit serves a specific purpose. Where its rights or duties do not fit, comparison with another route begins.
The deciding question
Could Monaco work as your real home—and what would your housing, resources, and work plans need to support?
Where this route stops
A lease, purchase, or bank account does not guarantee approval. There is no published universal minimum bank deposit; housing and resources are assessed case by case.
08 / WHAT NBF EXAMINES
Turn a wish to move into a workable home plan.
Receive an ordered review of housing, means, family evidence and intended activity before rent or relocation decisions become binding.
Housing
Test the actual home and ongoing cost against the life you intend to lead.
Personal evidence
Organize financial means, entry rules and family documents for each person.
Sequence
Put the residence application and any intended work in the right order.
09 / SOURCES AND REVIEW
The basis for the decision stays visible.
Programme brochures can explain routes. Responsible authorities and the current case determine their legal effect and conditions.

THE NEXT DECISION
Will Monaco work as a place to live?
An address alone does not make a home. Review housing, financial means, family plans and intended activity as one relocation decision.
