Application for permanent residence; EDB and ICA assess individually.
Singapore · Global Investor Programme
An Asian base that must work for business and family.
The Global Investor Programme can open a path to permanent residence for qualifying owners and investors. The business profile must qualify first. The investment, purpose in Singapore and continuing connection to the country must then work together.
THE ROUTE AT A GLANCE
Business profile first. Capital second.
GIP is a selective PR route. Investment matters only alongside your track record and a credible Singapore plan.
Four owner and investor profiles with distinct evidence.
Option A, B or C; Family Office Principals may select only C.
Economic targets and the Re-Entry Permit need a later review.
01 / STARTING POINTS
What could this route make possible for you?
A residence right is valuable when its effect fits your life, family or business purpose.
An Asian business with a role
Connect customers, management and a local team to a specific growth plan.
Family on the ground
Address school, home and possible National Service duties for sons before applying.
Capital with a purpose
Compare business, GIP fund and family office by purpose, risk and later duties.

02 / LEGAL EFFECT
What the status grants. And what remains separate.
Residence, work, family and tax are not compressed into one promise.
GIP is a route to Singapore permanent residence following individual EDB and ICA assessment. Application and investment do not guarantee approval.
What qualifies for this route.
Singapore business investment; later employment targets matter.
GIP-select fund investment; assess capital risk and maintenance.
Family office with at least S$200m AUM and S$50m qualifying investment.
04 / LIFE BEHIND THE PERMIT
Residence alone does not settle daily life.
Who may join you, what you may do locally and how tax is affected are three distinct questions.
Family and daily life
A spouse and unmarried children under 21 may be included in the GIP application. Parents and older unmarried children may need a separate Long-Term Visit Pass. National Service may apply to male dependants.
Work and business
Assess the proposed business or family-office role and each family member's work position separately.
Tax position
A residence permit does not determine tax residence on its own. Home, actual presence, activity and applicable treaties require separate review.
05 / MAINTENANCE AND OUTLOOK
Keeping the status is part of the decision.
A sound plan considers admission alongside presence, renewal and the longer outlook.
Presence
EDB links five-year re-entry review to economic conditions and at least 50% residence in Singapore by the principal or all included dependants. ICA rules on a valid Re-Entry Permit also matter.
Renewal and duties
For later re-entry review, Option A includes employment tests, Option B continued fund investment, and Option C investment and family-office staffing. An invalid Re-Entry Permit can put PR status at risk while abroad.
Later status
Citizenship is a separate later application; permanent residence is no passport promise.
06 / PROCESS AND COSTS
The next step begins before applying.
Test applicant profile and industry against EDB criteria, choose the investment option, evidence business record and funds, complete EDB application and interview, invest after ICA's in-principle approval and formalise PR.
Calculate the whole decision.
Where minimum amounts are stated, they are legal eligibility thresholds at the documented source date, not estimates of total cost. We review fees and other costs for the individual case before filing.
- Qualifying investment or economic basis
- Government fees and translations
- Legal and tax review
- Family, insurance and location
- Ongoing duties and renewal
- Potential exit or status change
07 / FIT AND LIMITS
When this route belongs on your shortlist.
A suitable permit serves a specific purpose. Where its rights or duties do not fit, comparison with another route begins.
The deciding question
Does your business profile meet EDB's criteria, and which option would make sense for the business even without PR?
Where this route stops
A fund subscription does not replace the business qualification. EDB lists a S$20,000 application fee; investment, staffing, housing and continuing duties add to it. Fund investments are not principal-protected.
08 / WHAT NBF EXAMINES
Assess eligibility and life before a GIP option.
Get a filter for applicant profile, capital and family effects before substantial funds are committed.
Profile
Test track record, turnover, industry and ownership against EDB criteria.
Option
Compare A, B and C by risk, business purpose and continuing duties.
Family and continuity
Resolve National Service, daily life, re-entry targets and costs with specialists.
09 / SOURCES AND REVIEW
The basis for the decision stays visible.
Programme brochures can explain routes. Responsible authorities and the current case determine their legal effect and conditions.
